Yoga: Be All Flexy, and Lose Weight More Easily

Yoga is really terrific for helping you to lose weight. With regular practice you can increase your metabolic rate, which burns more fat, and it reduces stress, so you have fewer junk food cravings, see this article to find out how that works.

Regular Yoga Practice Will Keep You Young … and Fit

Here are some details on how yoga can help you to lose weight.

Better posture and breathing also helps our metabolic rate and fat-burning capacity when exercising. Include the proven stress-reducing effects of yoga and we have a recipe for muscle strengthening and weight loss.

Yoga postures are essentially positions into which we wouldn’t normally place our bones, muscles and joints in everyday life.

Therefore, it represents a good stress challenge physically. This, in turn, evokes a positive response in circulation, muscle strength, release and length, hormonal balance and oxygenation through breathing.

yogawoman2Yoga includes great attention to breathing throughout exercises. It focuses on the present moment, and helps reduce stress responses, increasing the resilience that encourages us to maintain good habits.

Yoga has also been shown to alleviate insomnia, sleep issues, depression and lower back pain – all of these are known barriers to weight loss.

There is no doubt that we live in a society in which we are continually faced with stimuli that excite our nervous systems and push us towards more shallow and fast breathing. In stressful situations, our breathing becomes even more shallow without our even noticing.

This is the reason were should take deep breaths when stress, panicked or angry. You could even be holding your breath when concentrating or carrying out a task that requires deep concentration. A good start would be going through one day being ‘breath aware’. Then monitor how you feel at the end of the day.

It can’t be emphasized enough, how important ‘correct breathing’ is to your health and overall body fitness. Regulating breathing increases the flow of oxygen in the body so that chemical reactions can happen faster, you then burn fuel as calories at a higher rate. More oxygen in the blood means the pancreas needs to produce less insulin to transport sugar efficiently into the cells.

As insulin can make us store fat, calmer breathing helps with both blood sugar levels and our tendency to gain weight in the long term.

Ultimately, remember that practicing yoga little and often can have better effects than doing one intense class a week.

Kim Kardashian using ‘baby weight whisperer’ to “Move Weight”

If you have $320 an hour to pay a masseuse it seems you can have your baby weight moved. That’s how Kim Kardashian is doing it. I don’t know if this actually works but I guess it worth a try.

“Kim is seeing a baby weight whisperer who specializes in moving extra weight back to her bump,” a source told Reveal magazine.

Stress Makes it Harder For You to Lose Weight

Even the best diet plan requires you to have some degree of self-control. If you just have to eat a Big Mac, fries and a Sunday twice a day you will likely have some trouble time losing weight.

Relax … And Lose Weight

New research shows that stress, even moderate stress, makes it harder for you to say no to food that you may find comforting.

Typical scenarios for this effect are stress at work and at home. You’ve started a new diet, things are ticking along just fine and then that person at work (there’s always one) says something sarcastic to you at just the wrong time or you and hubby have a little disagreement about how your raising the kids. Instant stress, followed by poor food choices.

Scientists from the University of Zurich published new research that shows moderate levels of stress may have a negative effect on self-control when it comes to eating. After we’re put under pressure, we’re more likely to cave into our immediate cravings for junk food, rather than maintaining the willpower necessary to meet longer-term dietary goals.

It's difficult to give up comfort food when your stressed

It’s difficult to give up comfort food when your stressed

The research was conducted on 50 men. Women will be tested in a follow up study but the results are expected to be much the same.

These 50 guys were all trying to eat a healthy diet but admitted to a weakness for junk food.

The guys were all subjected to mild stress and then asked what they would like to eat after the testing was done.

… the stressed individuals were more likely to pick foods that they viewed as tastier, rather than healthier. The researchers also noticed that fewer parts of the pre-frontal cortex, which influences our ability to remain disciplined, lit up in the stressed participants.

Now remember, this reaction was brought on by mild stress. All the guys did was hold one hand in icy water for a short time and that was enough to bring on thoughts of comfort food. Your life probably has much higher stress levels and so you have a much stronger reason to turn to food you find comforting instead of food that is healthy.

Eliminating stress is just not a practical objective. You need to change your thinking when you are stressed. One very good way to do this is with self-hypnosis. It has worked very nicely for me and is really effortless. Go here to find lots of weight loss related self-hypnosis downloads.

A New and Icky Way to Lose Weight

The US FDA recently approved a balloon system to help people lose weight. It’s called the Orbera Intragastric Balloon System.

This is real desperation weight loss

This balloon is actually planted in your stomach and filled up with saline. Apparently it makes you feel like you’ve eaten and are full. I should think so.

Here are the details on how this works from Medscape

The balloon being inserted.

The balloon being inserted.

“The system deposits a balloon in the stomach, through the mouth, via a minimally invasive endoscopic procedure with the patient under mild sedation, a process that takes around 30 minutes, according to the manufacturer.

Once in place, the silicon balloon is filled with up to 500 cc of saline so that it expands and induces a feeling of satiety. The maximum placement period is 6 months, after which it is deflated and removed.

The system is indicated as an adjunct to weight reduction for obese adults with body mass index of 30 to 40 kg/m2 who have been unable to lose weight through diet and exercise. It is to be used in conjunction with a long-term supervised diet and behavior-modification program, which are to be continued after device removal.”

It seems to work, sort of. People who kept the balloon in place for 6 months lost about 10% of their body weight and kept it off for 3 months after the balloon was removed. What a relief that must have been, not losing weight but getting the balloon out of their guts.

In contrast people who just did a 12 month behavior modification program only lost 3% of their body weight.

Side effects of having a saline filled balloon in your guts for 6 months were said to be “manageable” and no deaths occurred.

That is certainly reassuring but I think I’d rather just drink a lot of beautiful clean water and feel a bit hungry from time to time. My guts will remain a balloon free zone.

Before you decide to try a balloon … try this, it’s much simpler.

About Low Carb Diets … and a Recipe

We often hear about low carb diets and how successful they prove to be in losing weight, but what is a low carb diet exactly?

The term “low-carb” means low in carbohydrates of course. Carbohydrates are usually found in foods like pasta, potatoes, fruit, bread and rice. A low carb diet does not entail any specific diet nor does it include well-defined steps to losing weight.

You Don’t Need to Buy Anything But the Right Food to Go Low Carb

It is a rather loose term that varies according to the person who uses it. Some common features though, include consuming foods that are low in carbohydrate and glycemic. The consumption of carbohydrates leads the body to excrete insulin.

Click the Image to get a better look

As carbohydrates get digested, glucose -the effect of insulin excretion- either gets burned by our body if it we need immediate energy or else gets stored as fat.

More seriously, after consuming a meal that consists mainly of carbohydrates, the level of insulin in our body goes suddenly up and after a short time suddenly down. This effect causes us to be hungry only after 2 or 4 hours from our last meal, leading us to a vicious circle of being hungry, then eating and finally storing fat.

The main ways to define a low carb diet, following the initial question “What Is A Low Carb Diet?”, is to clarify whether you are talking about the actual carbohydrate that an adult consumes daily or about the percentage of the calories in a person’s diet that comes from carbohydrates.

The usual amount of calories from carbs in an adult’s diet is about 50-60 percent. So any percentage of calories coming from carbohydrates that is below that, can be thought of as low carb.

The most common misconception about low carb diets is that people who follow this kind of eating plan are actually striving to consume a zero carbs. That is not only untrue but it is also near to impossible considering that carbohydrates are hidden in most of the food we consume, especially processed food.

A diet low in carbs, as the name itself demonstrates, tries to reduce the carbohydrates to a low level, not eliminate them completely.

Another common myth is that on a low carb diet you don’t eat fruits and vegetables. The truth is that this food category is rich in carbohydrate, but that does not mean you should eliminate them if your going low carb. Carbohydrates from fruits and veggies are exactly the kind of carbs you need.

A low carb diet can help you lose weight and increase your energy. People find themselves to be less sleepy and have better concentration and some cases have shown that people are experiencing a better mood.

Lots of people have noticed an increased metabolic speed as well. That’s a very good thing because it makes losing weight far easier.

Here’s a sample low carb meal plan. If you think you like it have a look at this site from the UK that has lots of low carb recopies.

Evidence That Drinking Green Tea Really Helps With Weight Loss

Samantha Rees from Manchester, UK is giving credit to green tea for her stunning weight loss. Rees lost 108 pounds in a little over one year and says she only started to lose weight quickly when she started drinking green tea, right around 2000 cups of it.

Rees admits that she had a terrible diet, buttery toast, chips, biscuits and pizza were some of her staples. She changed all that and began to eat a more healthy diet but her weight loss progress was very slow.

Green Tea Gave Her the Jump Start She Needed

Then a friend told her that green tea would boost her metabolism and help to stave off hunger. She started to drink it and stuck with her new diet and … yes, she started to lose weight, fast.

samreesebeforeThe claims assessor from Salford, Greater Manchester, is now a size 10. She said that before her dramatic weight loss and at her “most unhealthy” she would have numerous cups of milky tea with sugar each day.

“And I’d always dunk a couple of biscuits in there, too,” she added.

“People told me green tea is a ‘superfood’ that boosts metabolism and staves off hunger pangs. I always thought that was just a myth – but I was so desperate to lose weight I decided it was worth a go.

“I thought it was one of those crazy fads that people get obsessed with – but for me, it really worked. Some people swear by eating five portions of fruit and veg a day – for me, it’s drinking nine cups of green tea.”

samreesebeforeafterRees, who became a mum at just 15, has always struggled with her weight and believes that the dread of her expanding waistline led her to gorge herself on fatty and sugary treats.

She said: “I was a young mum, but it left my body unlike other girls my age. I was around a size 18 and weighed almost 15 stone by the age of 18.

“I hated my body and couldn’t pull off the extra weight because I was so petite. But feeling miserable about the way I looked only made me want to eat more.”

Now Rees finally has the body she longed for and swears the healthy tea is the key to her weight loss.

Jeb Bush Loves Paleo

I have friends who swear by the Paleo diet and they have lost a lot of weight. I haven’t tried it myself because I don’t like to eat meat, a pretty big component of Paleo.

In this Case I Think a Politician is Telling the Truth

Why would he lie about this. No national security involved at all. My friends on Paleo tell me this is pretty typical weight loss for the diet. Cool!

Jeb Bush credited a low-carb Paleo diet for his 40-pound weight loss in six months. Jeb, a former Florida governor who’s running for president of the United States, said regular exercise also helped him slim down.

Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush, who lost 40 pounds in 6 months, said his weight loss secrets were exercise and a low-carb Paleo diet.

“I’ve lost, by working out and eating right, 40 pounds in six months,” Bush told KCCI Aug. 2. Jeb, whose full name is John Ellis Bush, began following a low-carb Paleo diet at the suggestion of his son, George P. Bush.

Jeb, 62, is so thrilled with his weight loss he urged his son, Jeb Bush Jr., to adopt the Paleo diet. The Paleo diet has a huge celebrity following, including country superstar Tim McGraw, who lost 40 pounds with the low-carb Paleo diet and CrossFit workouts.

The Paleo diet is an alcohol-free eating plan that emphasizes high-quality animal proteins, healthy fats, non-starchy vegetables, and excludes gluten, sugar, dairy, legumes, and processed foods.

The 6-foot-4 Jeb did not say how much he weighs, but he no longer has a chubby face or double chin, and his once puffy stomach is now flat, Celebrity Health & Fitness reported.

Don’t Eat White Bread and Pasta

Cutting out all white grain products — such as white rice, spaghetti, sandwich rolls — will instantly slim you down because the simple carbs in these foods cause bloating, especially around your belly. If you feel the need for grains eat barley, oats or brown rice.

Get into a Cardio Workout 30 Minutes a Day

Drink Coffee an Hour Before Working Out

cosmocoffeeThis is the one exception to the stick-to-water-only rule: Just as a coffee run makes your morning at work more productive, a pre-exercise cup of java with a splash of skim milk (about 11 calories) or black (just 5 calories) will energize your workout. Just don’t load your coffee with sugar.

Do 36 Push-Ups and Lunges Every Other Day

These gym-class staples will help sculpt muscle, so you’ll sport a more streamlined appearance. Do three sets of 12 of each exercise every other day.

Sleep 30 Minutes More a Night

That extra half an hour, whether you sleep 5 hours or 8, can refresh you enough that you will make better food choices (in other words, no quick sugar fix for breakfast in search of energy) and won’t feel lethargic and skip the gym

Have You-on-Top Sex for the Next Week … or More

cosmosexNot that you needed an excuse to hook up with your guy every night, but the fact is, this position is a fat blaster. Do it long and well and burn calories.

Make One Food Sacrifice

Cutting out one eating indulgence that is normal for you — such as the chips you have with lunch or the chocolate dessert you eat after dinner — can subtract several hundred calories per week from your diet.

Do Squats and Sit-Ups

Bodybuilders use this technique before competitions because it adds definition to muscle.

Pop an Antigas Pill

Take one of these chewable tablets, sold over-the-counter at drugstores, to relieve bloating in your abdomen and break up gas bubbles in your digestive track, leaving you with a flatter tummy.

Mediterranean Eating … Not Dieting

Mediterranean eating, as practiced by the good people of Greece, Italy and Spain, is not dieting. It is eating well.

A typical diet in these countries includes lots and lots of fresh leafy green vegetables like spinach and red vegetable like tomatoes. It also includes lots of beautiful olive oil, plenty of water and red wine of course, in moderation.

Eating this way consistently will help you lose weight!

Science shows that people who eat this way are less prone to cardiovascular ailments that are generally related to being overweight. Eating this way has also been proven by many scientists to be one of the healthiest on earth. It’s also excellent for losing weight.

Stir in the chicken, bell pepper, parsley, onions, olives, salt, chives, and feta cheese into the quinoa.
